The Hanged Man- Being the Different One

The Hanged Man Tarot Card

When you have your own mindset

The Hanged Man can represent the one who is different from the others, the one who stands apart. Because he is different, he probably has to endure ridicule from those unaccepting of anyone who is different. He may feel the world is not balanced in his favor. With luck, he will be wise enough to see it all from a wide perspective and not take any of it personally. The Hanged Man is often enlightened enough to understand where people are coming from with their actions and their attitudes. The Hanged Man is somebody who has his own mindset. His mindset may be different from those of others, but he will not let that persuade him to compromise his integrity. –Jim Larsen

Death: Live as You Hope To be Remembered

Death Tarot Card: Memento Mori

Death Tarot Card

The Stoic philosophers of the 3rd century had a phrase that pertained to death and dying: “Memento Mori.” Translated, this means, “You will die.” This was not meant to scare anybody; quite the opposite is true. It was meant to celebrate your life, and that you ae alive at all.

To think of death and dying, to ponder your own demise is not a morbid thing to do, for we are all going to die. The idea, really, is to think about how we would like to be remembered, and use these thoughts to guide us in how we live. In other words, live the life we want to be remembered for.

Do you want to be remembered as a loving and generous soul? Then be loving and generous. Do you want to be remembered as cantankerous and bitter? That act cantankerous and bitter. How do you imagine right now that people see you? If you died on the spot, is this how you want to be remembered? Never mind all your past deeds and actions, think about right now. If your most recent actions and deeds are all the legacy you leave behind, are you happy with that?

Zoom out from yourself and see yourself from the widest angle possible. See past your own ego and needs for validation and ask yourself honestly how people must see you right now in the moment. If you like what you see, keep it up. You are on the right track. If you are displeased somehow, think about how you want to be seen and act accordingly. Nobody can do this for you. Only you can do this. You cannot force people to see you in any way. You can only influence them.

Do not let the thought of your own demise frighten you. Embrace the reality that one day it will be upon you. Use the thought to guide your actions towards living the best life possible. — Jim Larsen

Fearing The Hanged Man

The Hanged Man may upset the status-quo

The Hanged Man Tarot Card
The Hanged Man Tarot Card

In tarot, The Hanged Man can scare people. He can anger them. He can even enrage them. He does this by speaking the truth. He sees and he speaks the absolute truth. He is not taken in or fooled by the facades and the projections that so many people use as shields to hide their truths. As he sees through these, he calls people out. He makes them face these truths. He makes them feel naked and vulnerable because the protection that the shield was meant to offer this protection is stripped away and now there is nothing but the ugliness about themselves for them to accept. But they don’t want to accept that. They don’t want to have to deal with this ugly truth. They themselves are bothered by it and are not equipped to face it. This is the reason for the facades and the shields. They feel threatened by the natural flow of nature and want to illusion of control over it. When that illusion of control is stripped away, they get defensive against the one who stripped it away by seeing through it. This often triggers them to go into the offense and lash out against the one who saw through it- the Hanged Man. They then identify the Hanged Man as somebody who will see through their facades and projections, and then fear and despise them for it. – Jim Larsen

The Hanged Man: Zoom Out

The Hanged Man Tarot Card
The Hanged Man Tarot Card

What Difference Does it Make?

The Hanged Man tarot card reminds us that an important life skill is the ability to zoom out and see situations from a broad perspective. When you do this, you can get a sense of just how insignificant and unimportant most things we preoccupy ourselves with really are. Seen from a wide view, just what difference does most everything we obsess over really matter? It’s all very small. Ask yourself when you are obsessing over something: to a person a mile down the road from me, does this make one bit of difference? Probably, it doesn’t. It is so small that it truly is confined to you and your own mind. So, zoom out and see just how stupid most of what you worry about really is. This is a technique that the Hanged Man can teach you. — Jim Larsen

Death Card- A Chance to Rebound

Death Tarot Card

Tarot Death Card: Bouncing back

One way to think about the Death card of tarot is to consider it as a signifier that you have hit rock bottom, or if you are not there already, you are on your way there. On the way down, you probably feel like you have no control over your circumstances and that life was spinning out of control. Don’t fret though. Things may seem bad, but keep in mind, once you hit bottom, you can assess where you are and what your options are. Once you get that figured out, you can figure out the best way to get back to where you want to be. Sure, you hit rock bottom, but at least now you have solid ground beneath your feet. And with this solid ground, you can propel your self upward again.

The Death card of tarot is like that. In a broad sense, it carries intonations of a new chapter of life beginning as an old one comes to a close. Sometimes one chapter ends with a low point in life being hit, sometimes a high point being reached, while at other times an even transition to something new. In the case of hitting rock bottom, just know that Death can mean you have the chanced now to bounce back with renewed vigor and strength. Find the solid ground beneath your feet and rebound! — Jim Larsen

This is somebody who has not forgotten what it means to struggle and endure hardships. They know what life is like for those they lead and will do their best to lead with understanding and compassion. This is a leader who knows that sometimes difficult decisions will have to be made, and that sometimes these decisions will not be popular or easy for all involved to handle. With this understanding, they will do what they can do to make the decisions with the utmost concern and understanding for those involved. — Jim Larsen

The Shadows of the Past No Longer Serve You

Put the shadows behind you. Walk away from them. It no longer serves you to dwell on the past. Forgive yourself for everything you feel you have done wrong, that you could have done differently or for what you should have done. All of that is in the past and you cannot go back to it. Forgive yourself and live in the light, not the shadows. Accept that things are as they are, and this is how they are meant to be. When you do this, new vistas open ahead of you and any guilt from the past cannot stop you from exploring them. — Jim Larsen
