What does the Hierophant tarot card mean? In the traditional sense, it means a teacher. Maybe a teacher of some kind is coming into our life, or maybe we ourselves are the teachers for others. In life, may lessons are to are to be learned. These lessons shape us and point us in the direction of our Personal Enlightenment. Sometimes, these lessons are learned through pain, and sometimes we must be the ones to inflict such pain on others that they will learn. It is our job, and what we signed on to do.
We set ourselves up to be unpopular in the eyes of those who will learn from us. This is neither fortunate nor unfortunate. It is simply what we signed up to be, signed up to do. We are the light workers, their hierophants, the teachers, and the way showers. Sometimes there is glory in what we do. Sometimes there is not. This matters only to the ego. Intrinsically, it makes no difference. We do it because this is who we are and what our mission is.
Often, this is a mission we grow into. We must go through our own trials and tribulations in order to arrive at this point. Once we arrive, the lessons we offer to others come fast and furious. One after another, sometimes occurring several simultaneously. This has an effect on us. It is an effect that we must teach ourselves to handle and to accept. It can feel like an energy drain at times. We have to go through a variety of emotions in order to facilitate these lessons for these others. These emotions, are sometimes joyous, and often painful.
We must learn to disassociate ourselves from this. We must do our best to remain disattached to our students, and to not identify with the pain we will feel on their behalf. We must remind ourselves, this is for them. We agreed to help. We agreed to facilitate this growth for them. It is okay to feel what we feel. We are so very 100 percent supported in our role. We mustn’t shirk from our responsibilities, for many are depending on us to do this for them. This is their growth and their karma. It is not something to take lightly, therefore the weak are not called for this role.
What does this say about who and what we are? This tells us that we are infinitely strong. What else could we possibly be? Can the weak put themselves through the continued hell that we go through? We are unique entities on the earth, and our purpose is strong. We are powerful. We are the ones providing growth and strength for our others.
Our star qualities must shine bright, for what else do we have that is ours alone? Our students may not be on the level of ego awareness to know who we truly are to them. They may see us as undesirable and detestable. This is okay. This just means the lesson is integrating. This means we are to them who we are needed to be. Somewhere in the negativity need for us, what they are meant to get from us is being gotten. Mission accomplished. Who’s next? Who else can I help? Who else can I help along the path to enlightenment? To recognize our role as Hieropahant is to embrace it fully even when it is difficult to do. — Jim Larsen
The Hierophant piece of yourself is that part that has something to share. Maybe you have something to share with the world, maybe you have something to share with a small group of people, or maybe you have something to share with one select person who will appreciate what you have for them. The important thing here is, as a Hierophant, don’t hold back. Let your wisdom be known. The trick to that is to be honest and true. When somebody asks you a question, give them a real answer. Don’t make them guess if you are joking around or not. Tell it to them straight. If you don’t know, then “I don’t know” is a good answer. When somebody is seeking knowledge, wisdom or guidance from you, you owe it to them to provide it if you can. Any true Hierophant will be to the point in their communications with others. The Hierophant is the piece of you that teaches others. This is your ability to hone in on how exactly to reach people. Everybody is different, and different people learn in different ways and need to be presented with the information in different ways. The Hierophant within you is free of ego enough to recognize that your first idea of how to teach somebody may not be the best way to reach them. You understand that it doesn’t have to be your way or no way. You can be flexible and adapt to their ways and needs and get the knowledge across to them. There is power in knowledge. There is power in wisdom as well. We each possess both based on our individual life paths, experiences, and expectations. To be a Hierophant means to be truly aware of what these things mean to us as individuals. To be acutely aware of what you know and what you can do with what you know is to live a fulfilled life, and as such, others will notice this.
Others will notice and they will tap into your knowledge and wisdom for their own personal needs and growth as they come to you for answers. As a keeper of this knowledge and power, you are in a unique position to shape the lives of others. Take this seriously. Honor those who ask of you the lessons of life by giving them serious and well articulated answers. Consider this today as you are looked to as the wise guru of your family, community, school, office, carpool, or wherever.

The Hierophant tarot card may remind us that like it or not, realize it or not, you are looked up to. You are seen as a wise person. You know things that others wish they did. You have life experience that they are still amassing, and therefore, you are seen as wise. That’s pretty cool, right? Consider the questions that people ask you. These are questions that only a learned, wise, and knowledgeable person could answer. The fact that you are the one being asked these questions, and the fact that you actually have the answers should tell you just how much you really do know.
Did you know you knew this much? Sometimes we don’t realize how far we have come on our path until we get these little reminders. How others see us can tell us a lot about who we are. If we like what we discover about ourselves through these glimpses we attain from others, that is great. We know we are doing good. If we do not like what we see, however, we can take this as a hint about what we need to work on.
The Heirophant Tarot Card: Just let the answers come
The Hierophant tarot card tells you, all the answers you need are around somewhere. Find them. Look for them with honesty and sincerity. Don’t just halfheartedly say you want the answer, but genuinely say that you would like to find the answer. Once the question is out there, trust that the universe will in its way- a way that is relevant to you, provide an answer.
Maybe the answer will come through meditation. Maybe the answer will come in a song you unexpectedly hear. Maybe the answer will come through an unplanned conversation. Maybe the answer will come through something you overhear from a complete stranger. Who knows how the answer will come?
Sometimes the best thing to do is to not dictate the medium of the answer, but rather to let it come however it will. So what is on your mind? What do you need an answer to? Ask, and allow the answer to come. It will. This is how your inner Hierophant operates.

The Hierophant tarot card says, those that think they know everything are severely stagnating their selves. They are severely limiting any future growth and progress that they could be enjoying. Let this be on your mind today. The Hierophant tarot card reminds us of teachers. It reminds us that lessons can be found everywhere as long as we open our awareness to them.
So open your awareness to them! If something isn’t going your way, resist the temptation to be victimized. Instead, use it as an opportunity for growth and new learning. Remember, there is always something new to be learned.
You will never learn everything there is to know, so keep learning. Keep growing. Keep looking for the lessons that situations have to teach us.
