The Hanged Man- Being the Different One

The Hanged Man Tarot Card

When you have your own mindset

The Hanged Man can represent the one who is different from the others, the one who stands apart. Because he is different, he probably has to endure ridicule from those unaccepting of anyone who is different. He may feel the world is not balanced in his favor. With luck, he will be wise enough to see it all from a wide perspective and not take any of it personally. The Hanged Man is often enlightened enough to understand where people are coming from with their actions and their attitudes. The Hanged Man is somebody who has his own mindset. His mindset may be different from those of others, but he will not let that persuade him to compromise his integrity. –Jim Larsen

Fearing The Hanged Man

The Hanged Man may upset the status-quo

The Hanged Man Tarot Card
The Hanged Man Tarot Card

In tarot, The Hanged Man can scare people. He can anger them. He can even enrage them. He does this by speaking the truth. He sees and he speaks the absolute truth. He is not taken in or fooled by the facades and the projections that so many people use as shields to hide their truths. As he sees through these, he calls people out. He makes them face these truths. He makes them feel naked and vulnerable because the protection that the shield was meant to offer this protection is stripped away and now there is nothing but the ugliness about themselves for them to accept. But they don’t want to accept that. They don’t want to have to deal with this ugly truth. They themselves are bothered by it and are not equipped to face it. This is the reason for the facades and the shields. They feel threatened by the natural flow of nature and want to illusion of control over it. When that illusion of control is stripped away, they get defensive against the one who stripped it away by seeing through it. This often triggers them to go into the offense and lash out against the one who saw through it- the Hanged Man. They then identify the Hanged Man as somebody who will see through their facades and projections, and then fear and despise them for it. – Jim Larsen

The Hanged Man: Zoom Out

The Hanged Man Tarot Card
The Hanged Man Tarot Card

What Difference Does it Make?

The Hanged Man tarot card reminds us that an important life skill is the ability to zoom out and see situations from a broad perspective. When you do this, you can get a sense of just how insignificant and unimportant most things we preoccupy ourselves with really are. Seen from a wide view, just what difference does most everything we obsess over really matter? It’s all very small. Ask yourself when you are obsessing over something: to a person a mile down the road from me, does this make one bit of difference? Probably, it doesn’t. It is so small that it truly is confined to you and your own mind. So, zoom out and see just how stupid most of what you worry about really is. This is a technique that the Hanged Man can teach you. — Jim Larsen

Tarot Combinations: Hanged Man and 2 of Wands

Hanged Man and 2 of Wands: Looking for that Ah-Ha! Moment

Seeing things from other perspectives puts the whole world in your hands, as represented in the Hanged Man and 2 of Wands tarot combination. This is what you must thrive to do when seeking changes in your life- you, must learn to see the world you live in and the situations you are dealing with from other perspectives. You may struggle with certain aspects of your life and search for change. You know that this change will come from seeing things from just the right angle. But so far, you just haven’t found the right one yet. That does not mean it is not there, s do not give up on the endeavor of finding it.

As you explore different angles on the situation, you will eventually have the Ah-Ha! moment you are looking for as you see exactly how things fit together. What you find can not be seen from the standard, straight forward view of the situation. No, this is as it is seen from some odd angle that it had never occurred to you to look from before.

It could very well be that you just happened to see it from this angle by accident. That happens. A mishap of some kind exposes an aspect that had remained hidden until now. When this happens, appreciate the synchronicities that led to this discovery and utilize it for your own betterment. When you do this, you are not bound by conventionality, but rather innovation.

This makes you powerful. You must recognize these discoveries for what they are when you find them, and not dismiss them because you had not seen them before. Even if they only seem like a vague possibility, be willing and able to experiment and innovate with what you have found to see how they work for you.

This is what puts the world in your hands and gives you the power to create something new. With the Hanged Man and 2 of Wands, you will find those Ah-Ha moments that lead to innovation. –Jim Larsen

The Hanged Man: Upsetting the Elite

The Hanged Man Tarot Card
The Hanged Man Tarot Card

As The Hanged Man you are able to see the things that nobody else can see. This makes you a valuable commodity. It also makes you feared. As you see from these other angles and these other perspectives, you are poised to point out the details that the power elite do not want being noticed. By pointing these out, you become an instigator of change.

The power elite does not want this change to happen, for as it happens, their power will be diminished, maybe rendered obsolete. They will fight this. If they cannot come right out and stop you, they will endeavor to delegitimize you. They may do this with full force and will not be satisfied until you are rendered untrusted and without credibility or merit. There are many ways to see anything or any situation. The power elite though, wants to limit what can be seen. As the Hanged Man, you are considered an enemy for showing another way.

Do not be afraid to step into the full power of your Hanged Man quality. Keep showing what you see and telling what you know. Trust that your messages are important. Let the words of Kris Kristofferson in his song, To Beat The Devil ring true for you: “Because I don’t believe that no one wants to know…”

The Hanged Man: The Discomfort Gets Better

The Hanged Man Tarot Card: Examine What Is In Opposition to your Pain

In a lot of ways, the Hanged Man tarot card is about seeing and understanding the world from other angles. This includes our own life as we endeavor to understand who we are. We will at times be put into different and trying circumstances as a chance to examine our lives from these different angles. This is will likely not always be fun, but to really appreciate who we are it worthwhile to not shirk from the discomfort and the pain these circumstances bring

To ride the discomfort and pain out is to see why this pain and discomfort exists in the first place. We can examine what this pain and discomfort exists in opposition to. This tells us what is truly and intrinsically important to us, or we would not be triggered by what opposes them. The next time you find yourself in a situation that is uncomfortable to you, take a Hanged Man approach to dealing with it and examine it from all possible viewpoints. You gain a deeper understanding of yourself this way. — Jim Larsen

The Hanged Man: In a Different Place

The Hanged Man Tarot Card

The Hanged Man Tarot Card: Taking Nothing Personally

The Hanged Man, as one who sees the world from different perspectives than others, may at times feel left out and like an outsider. This is logical. As the world is a different place to them, it is difficult to relate to those who constitute the norm of society. But are they supposed to change who they are and pretend to see the world from an angle other than their own just to fit in? How exactly would they accomplish that?

A true Hanged Man will accept the fact that they will often be alone in the world. They will embrace this and accept the value of it. They will take nothing personally and keep seeing and valuing what they see and understand that others do not. — Jim Larsen

The Hanged Man: The Einstein Connection

The Hanged Man Tarot Card

The Hanged Man Tarot Card: What Einstein would have done

” No problem can be solved from the same level of consciousness that created it.” Albert Einstein said that. He could have easily been quoting The Hanged Man. Think about it. When you have a problem, is it solved by thinking the same thoughts about it? Is it solved by looking at it from the same angle? By thinking the same thoughts and looking at it from the same angle does nothing but reiterate what you already know about it. You can only do that for so long before you realize you are not getting anywhere this way. That is when you need to shake it up.

Examine the problem from other angles. Figure it out what it is really made of so you have a better idea of what you are dealing with. Turn it upside down. Look at it from that angle. What new thoughts does this inspire about it? What new things have you figured out about it?

Somewhere in this new angle is a thought about a solution. Or maybe you need to alter the angle a little more to find it. The important thing is, don’t fixate on one way of thinking or looking at a problem. Examine it from a variety of angles to find a workable solution. It’s what Albert Einstein would have done, and Albert Einstein embodied the Hanged Man. –Jim Larsen

The Hanged Man: Go With The Flow

The Hanged Man Tarot Card; How to appreciate opposition

Make this one of those “Go with the flow” kind of days. You can’t be in control of everything, and why would you want to be? If you were in control of everything, where would the surprises come from? Where would the issues arrive that you have to develop the strength to deal with? When would your problem skills ever come into play? How would you ever grow? How would you ever evolve?

You need a little opposition in your life in order to propel you to become the person you need to be. So accept when you can’t be in charge of all aspects of what’s going on in your life. Say, “It is what it is” when what it is is with out your ability to change it. Now you are truly embodying the the archetype of The Hanged Man.
