Death: Live as You Hope To be Remembered

Death Tarot Card: Memento Mori

Death Tarot Card

The Stoic philosophers of the 3rd century had a phrase that pertained to death and dying: “Memento Mori.” Translated, this means, “You will die.” This was not meant to scare anybody; quite the opposite is true. It was meant to celebrate your life, and that you ae alive at all.

To think of death and dying, to ponder your own demise is not a morbid thing to do, for we are all going to die. The idea, really, is to think about how we would like to be remembered, and use these thoughts to guide us in how we live. In other words, live the life we want to be remembered for.

Do you want to be remembered as a loving and generous soul? Then be loving and generous. Do you want to be remembered as cantankerous and bitter? That act cantankerous and bitter. How do you imagine right now that people see you? If you died on the spot, is this how you want to be remembered? Never mind all your past deeds and actions, think about right now. If your most recent actions and deeds are all the legacy you leave behind, are you happy with that?

Zoom out from yourself and see yourself from the widest angle possible. See past your own ego and needs for validation and ask yourself honestly how people must see you right now in the moment. If you like what you see, keep it up. You are on the right track. If you are displeased somehow, think about how you want to be seen and act accordingly. Nobody can do this for you. Only you can do this. You cannot force people to see you in any way. You can only influence them.

Do not let the thought of your own demise frighten you. Embrace the reality that one day it will be upon you. Use the thought to guide your actions towards living the best life possible. — Jim Larsen

Death Card- A Chance to Rebound

Death Tarot Card

Tarot Death Card: Bouncing back

One way to think about the Death card of tarot is to consider it as a signifier that you have hit rock bottom, or if you are not there already, you are on your way there. On the way down, you probably feel like you have no control over your circumstances and that life was spinning out of control. Don’t fret though. Things may seem bad, but keep in mind, once you hit bottom, you can assess where you are and what your options are. Once you get that figured out, you can figure out the best way to get back to where you want to be. Sure, you hit rock bottom, but at least now you have solid ground beneath your feet. And with this solid ground, you can propel your self upward again.

The Death card of tarot is like that. In a broad sense, it carries intonations of a new chapter of life beginning as an old one comes to a close. Sometimes one chapter ends with a low point in life being hit, sometimes a high point being reached, while at other times an even transition to something new. In the case of hitting rock bottom, just know that Death can mean you have the chanced now to bounce back with renewed vigor and strength. Find the solid ground beneath your feet and rebound! — Jim Larsen

Death: Swimming Through The Abyss

Death Tarot Card

Tarot Death Card: A time of reconfiguring and recalculating

When pondering the Death card of tarot, think of it as the abyss between two lives. Sometimes this is literal. Sometimes this is figurative. It is a time of reconfiguring and recalculating. It is when you cannot return to the place you left behind, and where you are going is not yet in view. Death is a comatose state you wake up from to discover the rules have changed and you must now endeavor to figure them out all over again.

Death is acceptance. It is the acceptance of that which you cannot change so that you are free of the burden of holding onto what does not serve you. This frees you from unnecessary stresses over what doesn’t matter and the expenditure of energy of trying to achieve the unachievable.

Consider how Death plays a part in your own life. Does life seem confusing because the rules have changed, even if only in some small way in some aspect of your life? If so, accept this death of the old and birth of the new as part of the natural cycle of living. It has been happening over and over again since beyond memory. You, in your way, are experiencing it just as so many other people have and are. Just know it will pass. You will adjust to whatever this “new” is and continue living. — Jim Larsen

Death: Get Over It and Move On!

Death Tarot Card

The Death Card of Tarot: Don’t Stay Stuck in the Past

The Death card of tarot could well be telling you that it is time to let something go. Don’t cling too tightly to this thing in your life. Whatever it is, it is over, and it is time to accept that. Enjoy the memories, but realize that memories are all they are now.

It is time to reinvent yourself and move in a new direction to become what you are meant to become now that this new chapter that has begun. When you read a book, do you stay stuck on one chapter and continually reread it without moving on to see how the rest of the book turns out? It is doubtful. So why live life this way?

Time moves on like the pages of a book and one situation gives way to the next, to the next, to the next. Notice that each page builds on the previous pages. They would never amount to anything if each page had the exact same words on it. Remember fondly, but don’t stay stuck in the life you once lived. Live the life you are living now. Anticipate where it is going and enjoy the journey that life is. This could never happen without the continuous cycle of death and rebirth, and it is nothing to fear. –Jim Larsen

Death: Step Fealessly Into The Future

Fool’s Path Tarot Death Card

Death Tarot Card: Let Go of the Past to Embrace the Future

The Death card of tarot reminds us that so much of what we hold onto, we could let go of. These things are heavy to carry and they are a burden to us on our journey to enlightenment. So much of what we think is important, isn’t really. We need to recognize them for what they are and be willing to and find the courage and strength to let them go. We often believe that these things still serve us today as they once did in the past, or that they will again someday. Many of these things though have long since gone past their expiration dates.

To hold onto them only creates mental and spiritual clutter. It does no good to be a mental packrat, filling your mind with outdated beliefs, thoughts, and attitudes. Let these things go. Meditate them away and be free of the mind clutter they created. Put them behind you and be born anew. Leave them in the past and make room for what is new and what wills serve you on the next stretch of your life’s journey.

Life is about death and rebirth. Death is to let go of the past. Rebirth is to embrace the present. Growth is to step fearlessly and unencumbered into the future.

Death: Are you ready for change?

Death Tarot Card

The Death Card of Tarot: Accepting Changes

The Death card of tarot can be about deciding that it is time to make some changes. You realize that you have gone as far as you can under the present circumstances and know that if you are going to continue to grow, you will have to make changes in your life, and then you must find the courage and the fortitude to make those changes. It is so easy for us to sit around and contemplate the changes that we need to make and/or want to make, but to actually do them takes will power and fortitude.

To die, to experience death and to overcome it is to gain strength that we need to be the greatest version of ourselves. To die is to face uncertainty. This is not an easy thing to do, so much courage is required. How many people have this courage? How many people have what it takes to look Death in the eye and not shirk from it? How many people can willfully accept Death and encourage it to come in the interest of their own growth and Enlightenment? Those that cannot, remain in a stagnant state of being, not able to see the growth they experience or able to initiate any new growth on their own. Those that can, flourish, as they do not bind their selves to old energies and thoughts. They free themselves of the past in order to move towards the future unhindered by the weight of the past.

Death is to put the past in a casket and bury it. Death is to strip down to the bare essentials. Death is to boil life down to the absolute essentials and begin again, not with what once served you, but with what you need now to thrive in the paradigm you are growing into. Death is to fearlessly accept the changes of life and to boldly instigate them for the growth your soul needs to become an Enlightened being. Death is to be proactive in the process of your own growth and your own journey down the path of life.

Death is about making the decision to make and to accept the changes that lead to your betterment and to your enlightenment. When you know the changes are necessary, embrace them. No person or situation is meant to be exactly the same forever. Change happens no matter what, so you may as well get on board with it and prosper from it. Jim Larsen

Death: Allowing For New Beginnings

Death Tarot Card

Death Tarot Card: Take Inner Inventory

Think of the Death tarot card as telling you it is time to let go. Take inventory of both your inner landscape and your outer world. What have you been holding onto that once served you, but is now passed? Allow for new beginnings, new chapters in your life by letting go of the old. Thoughts and attitudes may have been relevant when they were fresh and new, but now they may be outdated. Accept that reality. Honor the new times you are in by reassessing your life and developing thoughts and attitudes that are pertinent to it now. The Death tarot card is not about loss in this case, but rather creating room for the new and what is next. Life is fluid and constantly changing. Make allowances for these changes by not being too rigid in your thinking. Be flexible and be adaptable. Death is but a metaphor for change. — Jim Larsen

Death: What are You Leaving Behind?

Death Tarot Card: What is beginning? What is ending?

The Death card of tarot invites you to consider not only what new chapter of your life is beginning, but also what chapter is now ending. This is what the Death card is all about. It represents the end of an old chapter and the start of a new. It can be exciting to think about what is about to begin life if it is something you have been looking forward to, but it can also be met with nervousness and apprehension if it is an unsure new beginning or one that you find yourself suddenly thrown into.

But as all this focus is on what is ahead, what about what you are moving on from, the chapter that is closing? How do you feel about putting this behind you? Are you glad to be done with it, or are you sad to see it end? What lessons from this chapter can you take with you into the new paradigm that will benefit you? What joys and happiness can you tap into to uplift and enlighten you? What can you look back on and avoid going through again?

The death card reminds us that new beginnings are not only possible, but inevitable. None of us get through life without them. The idea is to carry with us the good from old paradigms and implement them into the new, and to lean the lessons from the difficult times.

Death: Don’t Be Slowed Down

Death Tarot Card: Let go of dead weight

Allow today to be a day of death, as it pertains to tarot. Consider old patterns and old thoughts that you have been living by. Which ones are still valid? Which ones still contribute to your highest and best good? Hold onto those. Now, what about the old patterns and thoughts that have served their purpose but have now expired? Today is the day to let those go. Thank them for the purpose they served when they were valid, but accept that  their validity has since slipped away.

Why hold onto them? They are dead, and they are heavy. Carrying dead weight is one of the things that will slow you down like nothing else. Shake loose this dead weight and begin a new chapter in your life without it. This is truly on of the best favors you can do for yourself. Let this be the lesson of the Death tarot card for you today.
